Fan Friday: Ray Thompson's 2022 Caffeine Metallic C8 Stingray HTC

Fan Friday: Ray Thompson's 2022 Caffeine Metallic C8 Stingray HTC

Some colors are subtle until the light hits them right. Caffeine Metallic is one of those colors, and Ray Thompson's 2022 Stingray HTC parked against the limestone cliffs of Red Rock Canyon proves it better than almost any photo we've featured.

Ray had dreamed about owning a Corvette for years before finally pulling the trigger a couple of years ago. He hasn't looked back since. His Stingray HTC wears Caffeine Metallic — a deep, complex brown-burgundy that shifts character depending on the light, looking almost black in shadow and revealing a warm metallic depth in direct sun, exactly as it does parked against the Mojave Desert backdrop in these photos. Carbon Flash Metallic accents the roof, nacelles, and rear spoiler, creating a clean two-tone contrast that lets the Caffeine Metallic do the talking everywhere else.

Caffeine Metallic isn't just uncommon — it's the rarest color in the entire C8 Corvette generation. Chevrolet only offered it for two model years, 2022 and 2023, before discontinuing it entirely. Across both years combined, GM built just 921 Caffeine Metallic Corvettes total. In 2023 alone, only 536 were produced out of 53,785 Corvettes built that year — less than 1% of total production. Ray's car is from 2022, the color's very first year, putting it among the earliest and rarest examples of a shade that never got a second chance to find its audience before Chevrolet moved on to Riptide Blue and Cacti Green for 2024. Most people who see a Caffeine Metallic Corvette in person are seeing one for the first time — and likely the only time.

Ray hasn't left the car stock. An ACS Composite 1VM front splitter adds a more aggressive stance up front, a Soler Performance throttle controller sharpens pedal response, and the latest addition — an AWE Touring catback exhaust — gives the LT2 a sound to match the look. The yellow brake calipers visible through those satin gunmetal wheels are a distinctive, unexpected touch that plays beautifully against the dark exterior. It's the kind of build that reads as deliberate rather than excessive — every modification chosen with intention, nothing added just because it could be. Thanks for sharing this one with us, Ray — Red Rock Canyon has never looked better as a backdrop. 🏎️

For Ray's Caffeine Metallic HTC

C8 Corvette HTC Engine Cover — Color Matched — Caffeine Metallic is a relatively uncommon color choice, which makes a color-matched engine cover even more striking against the LT2. This custom-made cover features a crystal-clear window so the engine is on full display every time the hatch opens, finished in Ray's exact factory color. → Shop HTC Engine Cover

C8 Corvette Touch-Up Paint Premium Kit — Caffeine Metallic's complexity makes it a color worth protecting carefully. This kit is professionally color-matched to the exact GM paint code, designed not to glob or sit too thick the way many dealer touch-up paints do — ideal for keeping a less common color looking factory-fresh after any small rock chip from a Red Rock Canyon drive. → Shop C8 Touch-Up Paint

C8 Corvette 5VM Front Lip Splitter, Custom Paint — For a car already running an ACS 1VM splitter, a color-matched front lip in the same custom paint approach keeps the build cohesive front to back — finished to match Caffeine Metallic for a factory-integrated look. → Shop Custom Paint Splitter
