Installation Steps
1. Remove the Factory License Plate & Bracket
- Remove your license plate.
- If your C7 has a factory bracket, unscrew and remove it to expose the mounting area.
2. Test-Fit the LED Frame
- Hold the LED frame in position to confirm fitment and identify the cleanest route for the two wire leads.
- Typically, wires will route upward behind the bumper, exiting near the factory LED accessory light located just to the side of the plate area.
3. Access the LED Accessory/License Plate Light Wiring
- Look just to the left or right of the license plate pocket—you will see the small LED accessory light housing.
- Behind this light is the wiring you’ll tap into.
- Gray/Yellow or Brown/Gray wires are commonly used for low-intensity accessory/marker lighting on many C7 trims.
- Wire colors can vary slightly, so verify with a test light if unsure.
4. Route the LED Frame Wires
- Feed the two wires from your license plate frame through the opening behind the plate pocket.
- Make sure the wires do not pinch and have enough slack for mounting.
5. Make the Electrical Connections
Your LED frame has two wires:
- Red → Positive (Accessory Light +12V)
- Black → Ground (Chassis Ground or the factory light’s ground wire)
Using the accessory light wires:
- Locate the positive wire feeding the accessory/license plate LED.
- Use a T-tap or solder connection to connect your Red wire.
- Connect the Black wire to the ground wire in the same harness or to a clean metal ground point on the body.
- Secure all wiring with tape or loom to prevent movement or chafing.
6. Function Test
- Turn on your vehicle’s parking lights or headlights.
- The LED license plate frame should illuminate with the accessory lights.
- If it does not:
- Double-check your ground.
- Verify you tapped the correct positive wire.
7. Final Mounting
- Once testing is complete, mount the LED frame in place.
- Reinstall your license plate using the factory screws.
- Confirm that wires are tucked safely and not pinched.
Installation Notes
- The LED frame is low-draw and safe to tie into the accessory lighting circuit.
- Avoid tapping into turn-signal or reverse light circuits unless you want non-standard behavior.
- Always weather-proof exposed connections for longevity.
