The 2020 Mid-Engine Corvette

The Next Generation Corvette is finally here! However, GM reports that now it's almost gone, with the 2020 allocation being nearly sold out. 

"I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers," said Michael Simcoe, GM design chief. "It’s nearly sold out. It’s so close that it’s bound to be sold out soon."

The Mid-Engine Corvette made its official debut on July 18th, 2019 in Orange County, California. The debut highlighted the history of the Corvette with a nod toward the future with a completely redesigned 'Vette. In case you missed it, you can watch the debut below.

Now for the specs. The mid-engine Stingray is the fastest and most powerful entry-level Corvette ever released. It's also the first without a manual transmission. Chevy announced it will do 0-60 in less than 3 seconds with the Z51 Performance Package, keeping it in the running with the earliest Bugatti Veyron-- clear evidence of the potential of the mid-engine placement.

Much of the acceleration capacity can be accredited to the transmission. The Next Generation Corvette is the first 'Vette to offer a dual-clutch automatic, an eight-speed unit designed by Tremec. With this being the only transmission option available, it's the first time in history you won't be able to get a manual transmission in a new Corvette. However, the dual-clutch allows for a very low first gear and close ratios between gears two through six.

i have owned 28 corvettes since i was 17 yrs old now 69 i have only two a 1964 grand sport replica and a 2015 Zo6 so my only thought is wilder would be better for me but it is what it is…. the Z06 when you make it will be more my taste wider more hood/trunk indentations and a big ass wing fits me just fine too bad yo didn’t do chrome like colors to really set of the body but that’s just me again so good luck wish corvette well as always SAVE THE WAVE my friends i have owned a runnel ram 427 on a 1966 a 1976 blower a 2000 NOS Yvette and assorted others some with cool paint jobs love checkers on my vetoes 3 of the had different painted checkers one had a sark paint job white pearl at bottom coming up to different shades of light to dark colors of purple very cool for its time in the 60-70’s

I’m 79, and have owned 16 corvettes over the years, and was definitely a front engine die hard. I had repeatedly disavowed any interest in a mid-engine corvette, with all due respect to Mr. Zora Arcus Duntov. Living on the East Coast, I stayed up to watch the “reveal” on 7/18. On 7/19 I put my classic 62 up for sale, and asked my dealer of the last 16 years to put my name on his allocation list!

MY ORDER IS IN AND I CANNOT WAIT. I OWN TWO OTHER CORVETTES A 2001 I BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND ONE OF THE FIRST 2015 Z06’S THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW. THE Z06 IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SPORTS CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED (AND I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST 8 FERRARIS). I HAVE VERY HIGH EXPECATATIONS FOR THIS CAR THAT I AM SURE IT WILL MEET OR BEAT. WORLD CLASS AND IT IS BUILT IN THE USA.
