Fan Friday: Terry Possen's 1961 White C1 Corvette
Sixty-some years ago, a brand-new 1961 Corvette rolled off a dealer lot in Hawaii. It crossed an ocean, changed hands twice, spent roughly twenty years sitting on blocks in a barn — and eventually found its way to Terry Possen in Montana in the spring of 2023. That's the kind of origin story that makes a Corvette worth saving.
Terry bought it knowing what he had and what it needed. The car was already on its second paint job since new, with its red interior intact. He drove it through that first summer — getting a feel for it, going through the transmission, sorting out anything else the long dormancy had left behind — and kept it original throughout. Then in the fall of 2023, he made his move: stripped to the frame, fully repainted in white with Steel Grey coves, and every inch of the interior redone except the dash, which looked good enough to leave alone. The wheels were powder coated before paint, and the restoration was finished off with a Steel Grey hardtop that Terry repainted himself. The red factory wheels with their chrome 61 spinner hubcaps are exactly as they should be, and the redline tires complete the period-correct look that makes this C1 stop people in their tracks.
What makes the two-tone finish even more meaningful: 1961 was the very last year GM offered contrasting cove colors on a Corvette. Starting in 1962, Corvettes moved to solid-color exteriors — and the two-tone wouldn't return for another sixteen years. Terry's white and Steel Grey combination isn't just beautiful, it's one of the last of its kind ever built. The result is a 283 V8 with a 2-speed Hydra-Glide automatic that runs and looks the way it was meant to — and a Montana vanity plate (61VETT, naturally) that says everything you need to know about the man behind the wheel. Terry's garage — Vikings gear on the wall, game on the TV — gives you a perfect picture of who he is: someone who put real work into a real car and now gets to enjoy it exactly the way he always wanted. Dream come true is right. 🏎️
