AWA to Move to GTD with Corvette in 2024 | CorvetteStoreOnline.com

AWA, a Canadian racing team, has announced that it will move to the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2024 and 2025 with two Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs. This will be the team's first season in GTD, having previously competed in LMP3.

The driver lineup for the AWA Corvettes has not yet been announced, but the team has said that it will be a mix of experienced and up-and-coming drivers. AWA is the third confirmed program for Corvette's new Z06 GT3.R, following the announcements that Pratt Miller Motorsports will race in IMSA GTD Pro and TF Sport will represent the brand in the FIA WEC.

The move to GTD is a significant step up for AWA, but the team is confident that it has the experience and resources to be successful. AWA's team principal, Nico Varrone, a current and longtime Corvette Racing driver, has a wealth of experience in GT racing, having previously competed in the FIA GT1 World Championship and the American Le Mans Series. Varrone is rumored to run select races for the team.  The team also has a strong technical partnership with Corvette Racing, which will provide AWA with access to the latest Corvette racing technology.

AWA's entry into GTD is a sign of the growing popularity of the class. GTD is the most competitive class in IMSA, and it is home to a wide variety of manufacturers, including Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-AMG, and Ferrari. AWA's entry is a welcome addition to the class, and it will be interesting to see how the team performs in its first season in GTD.

Here are some additional details about the AWA Corvette program:

  • The team will be based in Montreal, Canada.
  • The cars will be prepared by AWA's in-house team.
  • The team will have technical support from Corvette Racing.
  • The driver lineup has not yet been announced.

We're excited to see how AWA performs in its first season in GTD. The team has a lot of potential, don't rule out the possibility they could be a dark horse contender for the championship.

Stay tuned for more updates on the AWA Corvette program!
