Fan Friday: Barry Abrahams’ 1967 Corvette Coupe

Barry Abrahams from Lincoln, Nebraska, has owned his 1967 427 Corvette coupe for nearly five decades, but the story of how it came into his life is as captivating as the car itself. In 1976, Barry's daily driver, a 1965 Buick Gran Sport, was totaled in an accident. Facing the harsh Nebraska winters, Barry knew he needed a reliable car before the cold set in. One evening in August 1976, he spotted a silver Corvette with a "For Sale" sign in the window while riding his motorcycle. After a quick chat with the owner and a 20-minute test drive, Barry was sold. The next day, he secured a loan and became the proud owner of this stunning classic.

With a low serial number (194377S100036), Barry’s Corvette was always in good shape, but in 2003, he and his wife decided to restore the car to its former glory. With the help of his brother-in-law, who owns a body shop in Ames, Iowa, they stripped the car, applied a new coat of Silver Pearl paint, and went through extensive engine and body repairs. From rebuilding the engine to replacing shocks, tie rods, and even restoring the original gauges and radio, no detail was overlooked. Barry’s friend, Russ Bruggeman, an exceptional mechanic, also played a big part in ensuring this classic Corvette runs smoothly to this day.

Barry’s Corvette has earned several trophies at local car shows, but what makes this story truly special is the joy and dedication he pours into keeping this car roadworthy. He doesn’t use a trailer—this Corvette is driven just as it was meant to be.
